In what ways does Yelp fail? How can a new startup compete in the restaurant recommendation space? - http://www.quora.com/In-what...

Greg Gerber voted up an answer. Emile Petrone, I worked there Having worked at Yelp, let me throw my 2 cents in. I think everyone is ignoring the simple question - "What is my motivation for writing this review?" The "rabid yelpers" write lots of reviews because that is their thing. It builds on their personal brand/ their image in the Yelp community. The people who leave steaming negative reviews are disgruntled and need a place to vent their frustration. The area in between these two accounts for very little of Yelp's content. Like any user-generated content site, the vast majority of content is created by 1-2%. For "personalized reviews" - how many of that 1-2% in your area are actually like you? Regardless of scale, that isn't very many people (if any). The easiest answer to this is showing you reviews by your friends - people you already have defined as similar to you. The Facebook integration helped accomplish this. However you still have the problem that very few of your...

What iPhone applications and websites exist for discovering new iPhone applications? - http://www.quora.com/What-iP...

Greg Gerber voted up an answer. Matt Monday, Ex-Apple, Entrepreneur Here we go.. For GAMES: Toucharcade.com - this is the ultimate resource for iPhone games. They have news, photos, videos, and forums for both released and upcoming games. Pocketgamer.co.uk - great for many mobile gaming platforms. Fingergaming.com - Gamasutra for mobile slidetoplay.com - has been around for a while. 148apps.com - has been around since the beginning and covers both games and non-games. Which leads me to NON-GAMES: (First the blogs) - Techcrunch.com, Mashable.com, Wired.com, Gizmodo.com all cover interesting businesses/apps, but you have to dig through the rest of what they cover to find this. AppAdvice.com - Pretty good editorial around all apps, and they also have "applists" for comparing apps in certain categories and sub categories like GPS apps. Creativeapplications.net - Great coverage of artistic and cool apps. While not always very useful, they will likely impress your friends....

Does Facebook's iPhone app use a proprietary web rendering engine instead of UIWebView? - http://www.quora.com/Does-Fa...

Greg Gerber voted up an answer. Luke Shepard, Manager, Facebook Mobile Platform No, all web rendering in the iPhone app is done via UIWebView (as required by Apple's terms). You can see the Webview in use in the News Feed, Profile pages, Search, third-party apps, and a few other places in the app. See question on Quora
